Nigeria Youth Unemployment
Nigeria today exists as an elite nation in Africa with the largest market and influx of potential foreign investors, yet its youths who are poised to preserve our national image are starved with opportunities to use their skill and natural aptitude to ensure this. With the youth unemployment constantly increasing we see that over 2 million graduates join labor market yearly, only less than 8% secure jobs.
The clamor for jobs by the unemployed and underemployed has yielded little or no results. Thus, in a bid to improve the economy and reduce the menace of poverty and unemployment in our dear nation, we want to harness every available tool. The goal is to engage and encourage a growing Nigerian workforce positively.
National Employment Transformation Initiative Summit (NETsummit)
The National Employment Transformation Initiative (NETsummit) which was formerly known as "National Career Fair" was setup in 2011 as an annual symposium on career information, business development, employment and economic opportunities for students, young professionals and SMEs in Nigeria.
The National Employment Transformation Initiative summit is an ecosystem of a broad range of experts in the area of capacity building, human resource development, workforce planning, education and training, knowledge management and knowledge networks for transforming employments and job creation. This capacity building initiative is designed to reduce the growing unemployment rate in Nigeria.
The NETsummit offers invaluable opportunity to youth with diverse areas of interest by educating, enlightening, empowering and instilling moral values in the participants; and at the same time, promoting entrepreneurship, civil liberty, rendering leadership training and proffering practical/realistic solutions to national and global challenges facing young Nigerians.
With the gradual depreciation in the value of degree certification and the need for more training after school, a lot of graduates cannot afford more training especially with the unavailability of jobs to fund further training. The narrative also identifies undergraduates and the unskilled who also need to be involved and enabled in vocational and employability skills that are needful in our current society. This ecosystem in itself provides empowerment plans, access to high-value network, information expansion and strategic layout plans for professional and social impact.
